Nvidia geforce gtx 960m

Launched in March 2015, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M is an upper-midrange, DirectX 11-compatible graphics card for laptops. It is constructed in a 28 nm process using Nvidia's Maxwell architecture (GM107 chip). The GTX 960M features fast GDDR5 memory (128 bit, 5000 MHz effective, 80 GB/s) and 640 shader units running at 1097–1202 MHz (Boost).
The GTX 960M is marginally faster than the earlier and technically quite identical GTX 860M.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Architecture

Maxwell has been improved in a number of areas over Kepler to increase power effectiveness. The use of the shaders should be improved by smaller Streaming Multiprocessors (SMM) with only 128 ALUs (Kepler: 192) and an improved scheduler. According to Nvidia, a Maxwell SMM with 128 ALUs may perform 90% as well as a Kepler SMX with 192 ALUs. With the help of its five SMMs, GM107 has 640 shader cores, 40 TMUs, and 16 ROPs (128-bit interface).

Another improvement is the greatly expanded L2 cache (GM107: 2 MB). The performance is not noticeably affected by the larger size because it can handle some of the memory traffic, enabling a relatively narrow memory interface. DirectX 12 is only supported by GM107 at feature level 11 0.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Performance

Although the GTX 960M has the same memory bandwidth as the earlier GTX 860M, it performs a little bit better because to its faster core frequency. Overall, compared to the desktop GTX 750 Ti, the 960M is nearly 10% faster.
A lot of the games released in 2014 and 2015 can be played smoothly at FullHD resolution and high detail levels. Lower resolutions and/or less details are needed for demanding games like Assassin's Creed Unity.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Features

The PureVideo HD video engine's sixth generation (VP6), integrated into GM107, provides superior H.264 and MPEG-2 video decoding performance. VP6 naturally supports all features from earlier editions (4K support, PIP, video encoding via NVENC API). HDMI 2.0 is still not supported, which is unfortunate.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Power Consumption

The GeForce GTX 960M should consume power similarly to the previous GTX 860M. (about 60 watts). The GPU is therefore best suited for laptops that are 15 inches or larger. Additionally, the 900M series supports Optimus, which intelligently alternates between an integrated graphics card and an Nvidia GPU.
